ABOUT
Ms. Clift’s 35-year background in teaching cello and chamber music has made her a sought-after teaching artist. She currently serves as a faculty member at St. Olaf College and is the Founder and Director of the International Cello Institute. In addition, she has taught at Carleton College, Augsburg College, Marshall University, and Gustavus Adolphus College. Her students have gone on to secure major positions at colleges, schools, universities, and orchestras nationwide.
Anna Clift has dedicated her life to mentoring and preparing young musicians for the professional world. She is in touch with the changes happening in this rapidly evolving Classical Music field.
Ms. Clift helps young artists search for ways to find and pursue their passions. She asks the necessary questions and prompts them to discover what they truly want from their career. Her philosophy is to cultivate curiosity and confidence while providing ongoing support and the tools required for students to teach themselves. Encouraging students to problem-solve on their own is among Ms. Clift’s top priorities. In her studio, how to listen effectively, and know your strengths and weaknesses is deeply valued and considered a key skill to learn for a professional musician.
